Incentive program helps small businesses thrive

The number of businesses benefitting from the Small Business Incentive Program increased to 11 this week. Perfection Painting Company along with Dreams and Dragonflies Events are the program’s latest to receive financial incentives for growing businesses within unincorporated Weld County.

“As county commissioners, we appreciate this program,” said Mike Freeman, Weld County Commissioner Pro-Tem. “We are a business-friendly county, and this program assists business growth in Weld County.”

A total of $189,160 has been distributed to 11 small businesses to help offset permitting and land use application fees since the program’s 2014 inception. The program was established with $500,000 from the county’s economic development fund and is facilitated by the Board of Commissioners and the Department of Planning Services. This year, small businesses have been awarded $130,000.

To be eligible for financial assistance, business owners or tenants must meet the following requirements:

• The subject real property must be located within unincorporated Weld County
• The business shall hire 50 percent of its workforce from Weld County
• The program only applies to businesses in Weld County with 35 or fewer employees
• Applicants must submit a business plan and consult with the Small Business Development Center
