Countdown to Courthouse Centennial Celebration

This week Weld County continues finalizing preparations for the Centennial Celebration of the Weld County Courthouse, which culminates with three events this Friday, June 30, 2017.

Starting at noon in Plaza West, 910 10th Ave., the final Lunch and Learn will feature journalist Mike Peters presenting on Ghost Stories and More! Peters has spent decades tracking Weld County’s high-profile cases and bringing them to print as well as documenting various paranormal activities as recounted by those who say they have observed strange happenings in the building. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to allow time to go through security.

Following the Lunch and Learn, courthouse staff and volunteers will be on hand to guide you on tours of the beautiful building from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Learn about the history of the building’s use as well as the stunning architectural elements both inside and out.

Then get ready to have a good time – the official Centennial Celebration kicks off at the east entrance of the building at 5:00 p.m. with live music, a stilt walker, cupcakes, displays and more! There will be a few surprises for those in attendance as well, including a special gift for the first 100 people (one per family please) to arrive at the event. The Weld County Sheriff’s Honor Guard will present the colors at 5:30 p.m., followed by the singing of the national anthem by former Weld County Commissioner Dave Long, a few comments by some special guests, and then back to the music and fun. Following the official proclamation reading, you can continue to enjoy the evening by heading down the street to the City of Greeley’s Friday Fest.

“This is an exciting event for the county,” said Commissioner Chair Julie Cozad. “This building is deserving of a grand party much like it had the day it opened. We hope everyone can come down and join in the celebration event!”
