District 2 Commissioner Julie Cozad was elected Board Chair for 2017.

During today’s board meeting, the Weld County Board Commissioners elected the Commissioner Chair and Commissioner Pro-Tem for 2017. Today’s vote followed the swearing in of three reelected commissioners earlier in the week—Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer, Commissioner Mike Freeman, and Commissioner Sean Conway.

Commissioner Julie Cozad elected to serve as the 2017 Chair and Commissioner Moreno will serve as 2017 Pro-Tem. In her first statements as chair, Cozad expressed her intent to focus on the business of the county in the upcoming year, mentioning transportation, the Bright Futures program, the Weld County Road 49 Corridor project, the expansion of the jail, and continuing the county’s history of being debt free, county sales tax free and imposing one of the lowest mill levies in the state. “Additionally, we must prepare for growth in the county, and work to serve the entire county—all 4,000 square miles of it—as it grows,” said Cozad. “We have a lot to do, and we’re ready to get started.”

In addition to electing the chair and pro-tem, the board also appointed commissioner coordinators to Weld County Departments:

  • Cozad, assisted by Moreno: Finance and Administration
  • Freeman, assisted by Moreno: Department of Public Works
  • Kirkmeyer, assisted by Freeman/Cozad: Planning Department and the Department of Human Services
