Weld County Assessor

The Weld County Assessor is an elected officer of the county. The Assessor serves a four-year term and is elected in the county general election by the voters; if re-elected, a person can serve in the role of County Assessor for up to three consecutive four-year terms. The constitutional duty of the County Assessor is to evaluate all property in the county for property tax purposes.

image of Chris WoodruffChris was elected as the Weld County Assessor in 2006 and was sworn into office on January 2, 2007.
Chris was re-elected in 2010 and in 2014 was re-elected to serve his third term.

Chris served as the Chief Deputy Assessor in Weld County from 1999-2007. Prior to that time, he served as the Chief Deputy Assessor in Douglas County, Colorado. Other property assessment experience includes work as an appraiser in El Paso County in Colorado Springs and as a Property Tax Consultant for the Colorado Division of Property Taxation in Denver. All totaled, Chris has over thirty years of appraisal and assessment management experience. He has been involved in the assessment of all types of property including oil and gas, residential, commercial-industrial and agriculture.

Chris is married to Karoline and they have three grown sons, Ben, Jacob and Sam.

He graduated from Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs. He attended the University of Colorado and graduated with the Bachelor of Science degree from Regis University.

Chris is a Certified General Appraiser. He has testified before County Boards of Equalization, the Board of Assessment Appeals, District Court, and the State Board of Equalization.

Chris is a member of the Colorado Assessor’s Association where he serves as the chairman of the Oil and Gas committee. He is also a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers, the Colorado Association of Tax Appraisers and the Appraisal Institute.

In 2007, Chris was appointed by the Governor to the Statutory Advisory Committee to the Property Tax Administrator. This committee reviews and approves or disapproves all procedures used by County Assessors throughout the state. 

Chris is a graduate of the Leadership Weld County program. He has served on the Leadership Weld County Board and the Greeley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. 

He served as the Chairman for the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Board and the Marketing Greeley Partnership. He also served as the Chair for the Greeley Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee.

Chris is a member of the Greeley Centennial Rotary Club and served as the President of the club in 2010-2011.
