Weld County Boards and Commissions

Weld County has many opportunities for citizens to engage in the administration or our local government. This page details some committees that meet on a regularly scheduled basis. We encourage all citizens, residents, and stakeholders to attend these meetings to participate in the governing process, or simply become more aware of relevant issues.

Area Agency on Aging

Monitors all programs for older adults and is funded under the Older Americans Act. It advises the Area Agency on Agency Department and County Commissioners regarding funding services for older adults such as home health care, transportation, legal services, nutrition, etc. There are 18 members serving three-year terms. Time commitment is four hours monthly and meets the second Thursday of each month at 9:00 a.m.

Board of Adjustment

Conducts hearings and decides appeals from decisions concerning the administration or enforcement of the Weld County Zoning Ordinance. It interprets the location of zoning district boundaries and lot lines with respect to those boundaries. Five members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is six hours annually. The Board meets when called on the first Tuesday of the month at 11:00 a.m.

Board of Public Health

Receives reports from the Health Department Director and staff on programs and health issues affecting Weld County residents. Considers bio-solid applications and Individual Sewage Disposal Systems and approves applications and holds hearings related to applications. Nine members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is three hours monthly. The Board meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m.

Board of Trustees of North Colorado Medical Center

Administers the lease of the hospital to North Colorado Medical Center Inc. Serves as a liaison between NCMC Inc. and the County Commissioners. Identifies community needs concerning hospital services. Seven members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is two hours per month. The Board meets the last Monday of each month at noon.

Building Trades Advisory Board

Acts as a citizen advisory board to review proposed changes in the Weld County Building Code Ordinance. Reviews complaints relating to the administration and enforcement of the ordinance. Serves as a communication link between the county and the construction industry. Eleven members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is six hours annually. The Board meets the third Thursday of April and October at 5:30 p.m.

Child Protection Citizen Review Panel

Makes recommendations on grievances filed regarding the conduct of Human Services employees. A limited background check is conducted prior to appointment. Five members plus alternates serve three-year terms. Time commitment is three hours annually. The Panel meets when called.

Community Corrections Advisory Board

Nine (9) member board representing all facets of local criminal justice system and the community. The Board determines which offenders may safely be placed in the community corrections program or community; recommend to the Board of County Commissioners who may operate a community corrections program; what conditions an offender must follow to participate in the program; and set standards by which the local provider may operate the program. Three (3) citizen members serve three-year terms, renewable by one term. Time commitment is 10 hours monthly. Full board meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at noon and as a Screening Committee weekly on a rotating basis, also at noon.

Extension Advisory Council

Advises Extension Services regarding their program efforts and budget decisions. Provides participation in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Extension programs. Serves as a communication link between legislators, commissioners and residents. Twelve members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is three hours monthly. The Council meets the third Thursday of every other month at noon.

Fair Board

Conducts the Weld County Fair. Junior exhibits of Weld County 4-H, FFA programs and open class competitions participate in the fair. Twenty-one members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is four hours monthly, plus fair participation. The Board meets the first Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m.

Families, Youth and Children Commission

Advises County Commissioners regarding various areas of child welfare, primarily services to families and children.  Meetings are scheduled quarterly.  Ten members serve three-year terms.  Time commitment is up to two hour per meeting.  The Commission meets quarterly, the second Friday at 7:30 a.m. 

Greeley Housing Authority Board

Responsible for the administrative and financial policies of the housing authorities. A salaried executive director is responsible for the daily operation of the authorities and reports to the authority monthly. Seven members serve five-year terms, two of which are recommended by County Commissioners for appointment by the Mayor of Greeley. Time commitment is two hours monthly. The Board meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. Applicants must live outside Greeley city limits.

Greeley Weld Airport Authority Board

Directs organization and administration of the airport. Three representatives from Weld County, three representatives from the City of Greeley, and one jointly appointed member recommended by the Airport Authority serve on the board. Each member serves a four-year term. Time commitment is four hours monthly. The Board meets the third Thursday of each month at 3:30 p.m.

Human Services Committee

Reviews and comments on the establishment and effectiveness of the Department of Human Services programs. Develops and recommends changes regarding the Comprehensive Employment and Training Plan. Advises Commissioners regarding program goals, policies and procedures. Fifteen members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is one hour monthly. The Committee meets when called.

Island Grove Park Board

Facilitates the promotion, management, maintenance, and operation of the City of Greeley and Weld County facilities at the Island Grove site. Makes policy recommendations to the city and county regarding use of the park and long-range plans for development of the facilities. Seven members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is 12 hours per year. The Board meets the first Thursday every other month at 4:00 p.m. Applicants must live outside Greeley city limits.

Juvenile Community Review Board

Encourages state and local government cooperation concerning adjudicated delinquent youth. Reviews specific youths proposed for community placement by the Division of Youth Services and accepts or rejects these recommendations. Seven regular members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is two hours per month. The Board meets the second Monday of each month at noon when there are cases to be heard.

Noxious Weed Management Advisory Board

Advises County Commissioners regarding integrated weed management on county and private property. Members must live within the unincorporated part of the county. At least a majority of members must own more than 40 acres of land in Weld County. Five members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is eight hours annually. The Board meets quarterly, the third Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

Planning Commission

Conducts hearings and advises County Commissioners regarding land-use planning, zoning administration, and subdivision development within the county. Reviews and makes recommendations on land-use applications and amendments to policies and regulations. Nine members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is ten hours monthly. The Commission meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 12:30 p.m.

Weld County Building Code Board of Appeals

Decides the suitability of alternate materials and methods of construction. Interprets provisions of the Weld County Building Code but has no authority to waive requirements of the code. Members are qualified by experience and training in building construction. Seven members serve three-year terms. Time commitment is two hours annually. The Board meets when called.

Weld Faith Partnership Council

Advises County Commissioners on strategic recommendations from a faith-based and community-based perspective regarding issues of concern. Up to fifteen members serve, including geographic representation of the faith community. Time commitment is two hours per month. The Council meets the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 a.m.

Weld/Larimer Loan Review Committee

Members represent Weld and Larimer Counties regarding loans for Community Development Block Grant funds. Review loan applications and serve as a credit committee for a loan program administered by Upstate Colorado Economic Development Board. Experience is required in finance, credit analysis and small business. Three Weld representatives serve three-year terms. Time commitment is ten hours annually. The Committee meets when called.

Workforce Development Board

Owners, CEO’s and individuals in the local area with optimum policymaking or hiring authority and leaders from the workforce system, education and economic development are charged with identifying regional workforce needs, developing and implementing systems in response and providing overall direction for Employment Services of Weld County. The time commitment averages three hours per month and has a three-year term. Meetings convene six times per year on Tuesdays at 11:15 a.m. and sub committees meet three to four times per year.
