Hot Car Awareness

Child in car

Even a loving and responsible parent can forget a child in the backseat when busy, distracted or experiencing a change in routine. Every year in the United States, an average of 37 children die after being left in hot cars. But this tragedy can be prevented.

Look before you lock and ACT!

A - Avoid heatstroke-related injury and death by never leaving your child alone in a car, not even for a minute. And make sure to keep your car locked when you’re not in it so kids don’t get in on their own.

C - Create reminders by putting something in the backseat of your car next to your child such as a briefcase, purse or cellphone that is needed at your final destination.

T - Take action. If you see a child alone in a car, call 911. One call could save a life. To file a report of abuse or neglect, call the Colorado Child Protection Hotline at 1-844-CO-4-KIDS (1-844-264-5437).
