All tattoo and body piercing facilities, including permanent make-up studios, undergo annual licensing and inspection. This does not include practices conducted under the supervision of a physician licensed to practice medicine under Colorado law. Follow-up inspections are conducted on an as-needed basis. Investigations also take place in response to complaints, reports of suspected disease, construction and remodel activities, fire, etc.

Schools with laboratory facilities and vocational classrooms are inspected annually. Complaints regarding school facilities also are investigated.
