Clerk and Recorder

Clerk and Recorder 1402 N. 17th AveThe Weld County Clerk and Recorder has the responsibility for the following departments in county government: Recording Department, Election Department, Motor Vehicle Department, the Southeast Weld Branch Office, and the Southwest Weld Branch Office.

Motor Vehicle offices will upgrade computer systems this summer

Expect longer waits temporarily

Statewide Motor Vehicle offices are getting a new computer system to replace their 1980’s MS-DOS system. Our Weld County clerk’s offices run the local Motor Vehicle Division where residents register/title vehicles and receive license plates.

To avoid the increased wait times, Weld Clerk and Recorder Carly Koppes is urging residents to renew their registration early and to do so online or by mail, if eligible. If you need an emissions test, drivers can take care of that first and after 48-hours will be able to renew online. Additionally, even if your grace month is about to expire, renewing online is still an option and drivers can print a temporary renewal receipt.

For those that have to visit the office in person, the clerk is encouraging those residents to allow plenty of time or, for Weld County residents, to schedule an appointment online (www.weldmotorvehicle.com).

Responsibilities of the Recording Department

The recording department is responsible for processing and preserving documents presented for recording as public record. Permanent record is kept on microfilm and optical images. Some records date back to 1865. All records are open to the public and certified copies of any document of record are available for a fee. Included in the records are: real estate records, military discharges, school records (limited information), maps and plats, marriage licenses and civil unions.

Responsibilities of the Elections Department

The election department is responsible for voter registration: compilation of ballots, absentee ballots, and early voting ballots for the regular primary, general and special county elections; training of election judges; conduct of election day procedures; tabulation of election day results, and certification of the election with the County Canvass Board.

Registration as a voter may be made at either office of the Weld County Clerk and Recorder or at any municipal clerk's office of cities and towns in Weld County, or at any driver's license office. Forms to register by mail are also available at these locations.
