Fourth Vietnam Veterans pinning ceremony announced

For the fourth consecutive year, the Weld County Board of Commissioners is proud to announce a special pinning ceremony for Vietnam Veterans. The ceremony, which will be held at the Fort Lupton Recreation Center on June 8, 2019, will formally welcome home veterans of the Vietnam War.

“We are excited to continue this event in 2019,” said Commissioner Chair Barbara Kirkmeyer. “It is a privilege and an honor to publicly thank each of these veterans for their service to our country and welcome them home.”

The pinning ceremony Presidential proclamation and the official pin are provided through the county for Vietnam Veterans by a program of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration. According to their website, “The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act…empowers the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program on behalf of the nation that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.” The goals of the program include thanking and honoring veterans of the Vietnam War, highlighting their service and paying tribute to their contributions. The program is scheduled to continue on the Federal level through Veterans Day 2025.

Weld County Commissioners hosted their first welcome home pinning ceremony for Vietnam Veterans in 2016 and presented 23 Vietnam Veterans with pins. In 2017, the commissioners presented 53 pins, and in 2018, 62 pins were given to veterans as part of their official welcome home.

If you are a veteran of the Vietnam War, or the family member of a veteran who served during that war, the Weld County Commissioners would like to formally invite you to the fourth county-hosted Vietnam Veteran Welcome Home and Pinning Ceremony to be held June 8, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. The morning will start with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. followed by the official ceremony at 9:00 a.m.

Vietnam Veterans, or family members of Vietnam Veterans, are asked to RSVP by May 29, 2019, to ensure a spot in the June 8 ceremony.
