Health Education Programs

The Health Education, Communication, and Planning Division of the Health Department uses population-based strategies to reduce death and disability in Weld County. HECP incorporates education, prevention, and data collection and analysis in coordination with partner agencies and coalitions to improve quality of life in Weld County. HECP also manages public health accreditation and health-related public information, including risk communication. Programs in the HECP Division include:

The Health Department's Breastfeeding Support Program works to provide support for new mothers at their workplaces, child care providers, and in public venues.

The Childhood Obesity Prevention program collaborates with the business community to promote breastfeeding and promotes activity and healthy eating in early childhood centers.

CTC is a community-driven process that prevents youth substance use, delinquency, and violence by selecting and implementing effective programs and policies aimed at reducing prevalent risk factors and strengthening protective factors.

Cooking Matters helps parents and caregivers struggling with limited food budgets learn how to shop for and cook healthy, affordable meals.

DRIVE SMART Weld County is a nonprofit community coalition made up of members of law enforcement, business, insurance, media, concerned citizens, schools, fire departments, and health professionals working to reduce injuries and death from traffic crashes.

The General Health Education program provides information and communication to the media and public related to disease outbreaks and health promotion. It also conducts health data monitoring and statistics for the county, conducts surveys to gather primary data, and coordinates strategic planning and evaluation functions.

The Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) program promotes healthy people and places in Weld County by focusing on the built environment, policies, and systems that have a strong influence on health and obesity prevention.

WeldWAITS offers comprehensive and holistic relationship and sexual health education with a strong emphasis on sexual risk avoidance (SRA). Teens are empowered, regardless of their sexual history, to achieve optimal sexual health outcomes through SRA education.

In partnership with the Tobacco Free Coalition of Weld County, the Weld County Tobacco Control Program works to reduce tobacco use through preventing initiation of tobacco use among young people; developing and identifying services to help people quit tobacco use (cessation); educating and protecting people from secondhand smoke; and addressing inequities in tobacco use among diverse populations.
