The Weld County Charter establishes the Department of Law, the director of which shall be known as the County Attorney.
Robert J. Frick, the County Attorney, serves as legal advisor for the Board of County Commissioners and all departments and divisions of Weld County government. When directed by the Board, the County Attorney represents Weld County, county officers, county employees, and appointed boards and commissions and their members in suits, actions and other legal proceedings.
The Department of Law is also referred to as the Weld County Attorney’s Office and is divided into the General Services Division and the Human Services Division.
There are seven full-time assistant county attorneys who assist with the duties of the County Attorney. Linda Goff, Tomi Hanson, Thomas Joaquin, and Mari Deminski are assigned primarily to the Human Services Division and handle cases under the Children’s Code, including dependency and neglect cases and child support enforcement. Bob Choate, Frank Haug, and Brad Yatabe are assigned primarily to the General Services Division and render advice to the elected county officials, handle matters in litigation, and work on other matters assigned by the County Attorney.
The Department of Law is prohibited from giving legal advice to the general public.
