Beginning this November 2010, owners of most gasoline-powered vehicles will be required to pass an emissions inspection prior to license plate renewal. With some exceptions, all vehicles more than four years old need to be tested every other year. The cost will be $25.
Portions of Weld and Larimer counties, along with the seven metropolitan Denver area counties, are out of compliance with federal health-based pollution standards for ground-level ozone – a health hazard to everyone.
The expansion to northern Colorado counties will include new testing stations, bringing the total number of stations to 18 throughout the Front Range.
Registered vehicle owners in Weld county will start to see the notice on their registrations beginning mid-October 2010 when the November renewals are mailed.
